Dave – After 20 years in IT development and an unexpected redundancy it was time to learn something completely new. Starting my career at Lincoln Security in 2009 as a bench assembler, I soon got the opportunity use my IT experience to resurrect the engraving equipment, working alone from our ‘satellite office’ at Langworth. After serving 5 years in isolation my term was commuted, and I was amongst the first to relocate to our newly-acquired, empty premises on Whisby Way. Starting with a blank sheet we designed an Engraving Department so that all our equipment was located in a single area of the building, and the team steadily grew to be what it is today. From initially only engraving and building bespoke key cabinets my team have progressed to now include site surveying, supplying all manner of locking solutions through to installation, effectively becoming a one-stop shop for the electricity transmission sector’s “security from system” needs.
Luke – Starting as an apprentice 7 years ago it has felt like 7 minutes. When I first joined, I learnt how to engrave a padlock, today I am a supervisor, technically competent, CAD designer, Party engineer and training to become a competent surveyor for the team. I have learnt from the best and have gained so much confidence of what I’m doing now because of the people around me. Every day is different… Monday morning I could be at Wimbledon substation for National Grid, the next doing a CAD design for our alarms team, the day after up north assisting our engineers with the fitting of wind turbine doors. Every day is different and this is why I love my job.
Fun Fact – Dave
In 1972 a crack engraving unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn’t commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum-security stockade to the Los Angeles underground. Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire the E-Team.
